Amazing Airplay

The Pop Larkins have already had a great response to "The Pub Song" and there are two more airplays this weekend on Amazing Radio. The Amazing Rock Show (presented by Aaron Phillips) broadcasts Saturday (04/02/11) at 8pm GMT and is then repeated the following Tuesday (07/02/11) at 10pm.

Jim Gellatly's show broadcasts Sunday (05/02/12) at 2pm and is then repeated the following Wednesday (08/02/12) at 10pm. Jim Gellatly is 'Scotland's answer to John Peel' and widely recognised as the voice of New Scottish music with over 20 years experience of unearting talent, including bands such as Glasvegas, Biffy Clyro, The Fratellis, Twin Atlantic, The Enemy, Sergeant and his hometown band The View.

You can listen to Amazing Radio live via DAB Digital radio (about six clicks left Of Radio 1). You can also stream live via www.amazingradio.co.uk. Rawk on!

New Release

The Pop Larkins release a specially packaged album titled "The Pop Larkins (1991-1994)" on 28 December 2011 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the band's formation. The 14 track CD includes 8 recently re-recorded tracks as well as 6 original demos taken from their four EP recordings, which were released on Auntie Mabel No Label between 1991 and 1994.

Unless there is a huge sway of public opinion, it is unlikely that the Jock Rockers will follow the latest trend and reform for a final tour.

Reviews (Album Launch)

This is an extract taken from a review that appeared in The List:

Odeon Beatclub

  • Paul Tierney's vocals were delivered with his trademark side on matadorial stance, which reminded me of a young Johnny Cash, although I couldn’t decide whether it was because he was having a Mexican standoff with JP’s dazzling white shoes
  • Odeon Beatclub charged through a setlist of favourites like "The New Kate Moss" and the Coral-esque "How To Kill A Man"
  • The Starlets

  • It was a particular treat to see The Starlets, since statistically you are more likely to catch them playing in Tokyo these days than in their native Glasgow
  • Their set was laced with observations about the dreaded Cumbernauld underpass, a Spaghetti Western soundtrack and a Polka (yes, a Polka)
  • With a brass and string section and a mandolin player (borrowed from The Hidden Masters), you are unlikely to see a more eclectic band anywhere
  • Jakil

  • Despite initial reservations due to their mass appeal to the pretty young female demographic, the new kids on the block subsequently won me over and proved worthy headliners
  • They have the swagger of McFly and the same carefully crafted pop tunes... while managing to stay on the right side of cheesy
  • Highlights included “Spin”, “Fool Stop” and “Tendertraps” and when they sang “OK I’m Ready”, you could not help but thinking that they were talking about ‘the big time’ and on the evidence of tonight it would be hard to argue with them

    A Sort of Homecoming

Pop music comes in many different flavours, but if we could bottle the sound of Scotland it would probably taste like Irn Bru.

We are releasing a compilation entitled "A Sort of Homecoming" to champion the best new Scottish music, as well as taking an alternative slant on the Homecoming Scotland celebrations. We make no apologies for adopting a familiar indie-pop paradigm, while throwing elements of folk, country, punk and bedroom pop into the melding pot.

This project backs up our assertion that the Scottish music scene has always punched above its weight. There will be a nice mix of the well known, the soon-to-be-known and bands you might never have heard of. The only criteria were great music and artists with a Scottish connection. All styles of music were considered, although this is Scotland so guitars are prominent in the musical landscape.

As well as providing a definitive guide to the best up-coming Scottish acts, the compendium will feature some underrated indie bands who have released records on labels in the UK, Japan and Sweden as well as playing at T in the Park.

The album features 21 tracks by 19 outstanding Scottish artists and will be available to buy on CD from most record stores as well as download exclusively on iTunes.

Finally, we would like to thank all the bands & artists who submitted a track to the compilation.
